Kick-start
A scorching hot speaker line-up, including session colourist Josh Wood, Grazia associate beauty editor Lauren Murdoch-Smith and ghd ambassador Zoe Irwin, was the perfect antidote to London’s sub-zero temperatures, as The Coterie gathered for its first members evening of 2012.
Josh took the floor first, with interviewer Anna-Marie Solowij probing him on his new Atelier, his work with fashion magazines and top brands like Louis Vuitton, and his future plans for Ponystep magazine, where he has just been made creative director.
“He’s like a god, “ said Coterie member AJ Blackadder. “I didn’t want the interview to end!”
If you’ve ever wondered how it works at the country’s biggest weekly magazine, Grazia, this was a chance to find out as Coterie committee member Adam Reed quizzed the beauty editor (and his great friend) Lauren Murdoch-Smith. With a host of slides illustrating the chat, Lauren discussed how how she chooses trends and puts together editorial pages, while giving vital advice on making it in the world of beauty. Electric stuff!
Our final speaker was ghd ambassador and all-round hair, beauty and style guru, Zoë Irwin, who revealed how she’s currently writing a styling degree for hairdressers – the first of its kind. Turning her attention to the catwalk, Zoe then gave a masterclass on S/S12’s pastel trends, and how to incorporate them into the salon.
Suitably inspired, members were able to network and discuss the evening’s key themes before braving the cold once more – this time clutching a goodie bag containing a hot-off-the-press issue of Runway S/S12 and their very own ghd air hairdryer. January blues? Not if you’re a Coterie member!
